I would use a Nextcloud with the data ontop gluster which gives you the redundancy and with the remote geo-replication -> you have a DR copy.Nextcloud has a client for synchronization to the server and will only work when the laptops can reach the NextCloud. Also, you got the option to share files , set expiry for shares, etc.

I would recommend to implement storage only in the main office and then
run a file sync service (like syncthing, seafile or nextcloud) out of there.
All laptops and desktops then sync their data to this file service.
$HOME would be a local directory with only local data.
