[Gluster-users] hidden .gfs* files?

Hi,
I have some hidden .gfs* files lying around in a distributed Volume (3 bricks). Their acces time and modification time do not change any more. What are these? Something like .nfs* files? 
Can I safely remove them? Their size is as big as the (visible, non .gfs* filename) file's size.
