[Gluster-users] Where is located the metadata?

I'm using gluster 2.0rc1 on a 3 node system with replicate and
distribute translators, I'm having a strange issue when testing it using
dd, creating new files had a bandwidth of 3Mb/s, issuing a touch and
then using dd lead to a bandwidth of 30Mb/s. Beside this issue with
create the performance is quite poor (local node has 90Mb/s)

I changed the configuration one time switching distribute and replicate
and gluster just accepted it, then I switched back and gluster just
didn't get it well at all:

I already wiped clean the disks, still it complains the same way, I
couldn't find where the metadata is located so I could cleanup and keep
experimenting.

So, I overlooked the documentation or it isn't defined?
