It seems that this is not the case for all releases. Current releases do
not have the dependency. There have been releases where glusterd (from
glusterfs-server) would not start in case glusterfs-geo-replication was
Obviously the associated bug  that I filed for merging these two
packages is now closed as NOTABUG, and the review request  for the
modified .spec file has been abandoned.
In case glusterd has trouble starting without geo-replication installed,
a new bug will need to be filed and we'll reconsider the merging of
glusterfs-server and glusterfs-geo-replication again.
