OK so it looks like I am a lucky man.
The gluster team updated the docker image for the first time after more than
one year, and this happened EXACTLY 3 days ago when I have installed the new
kube node.

Their new image is incompatible with the previous one as it bumps from version
4.1 to version 7.1 and I see a lot of kube clusters out there in danger with
this poor move,
when a pod  is redeployed if they pointing to latest.

Thank you for the hint and for your time. After using previous image, the
problem went away.

For sure a version check in the code to avoid a buffer overflow is recommended.
