ok, testing with the RPM's 3.7.2-3.el6.x86_64 the glusterd process does not die
anymore. Thank you :-)

However, I am still unable to remount a replicated node of two bricks without
both glusterd services being online. This defeates the point of replication.

This isn't how it used to be in 3.4.7 but from 3.5.x and above this is broken.
