We ran this test again and this time by removing the brick from an EC volume
and initiating rebalance. 

The brick was removed successfully and the rebalance completed cleanly.

Hence marking this bug verified as the crash wasn't seen.

The issue of rebalance that I reported above will be tracked through a
different bug.
