[Bugs] [Bug 1200457] gluster performance issue as data is added to volume. tar extraction of files goes from 1-minute on empty volume to 20-minutes on volume with 40TB.

Testing without gluster in the stack

update for point (B) in comment #9

Attempted to create a simple program that runs on a local XFS mount to see if
the problem can be replicated without gluster in the picture.

The attached program was run for a few hours in both a local setup as well as
in David's setup but did not show up any linkat/symlink creation slowness as
observed with Gluster.

This means of detecting or narrowing the problem does not seem to be bearing
fruit.
