Thanks for the update! I have marked the packages to get signed and
pushed to the mirrors. Everything should be ready in the next couple of
hours.

Hi Strahil,

Sorry, I don't know where these packages are maintained. Maybe Anoop can
point us in the right direction.

I suppose you mean the samba-vfs-glusterfs package. At least that's its
name in Fedora[1]. It's part of Samba, if whoever built Samba enabled it in
the build.

There are two potential sources of Samba in CentOS: the one that's in the
base is the same as what's in RHEL, which doesn't have any of the VFSes
enabled[2]; and there could be one in the Storage SIG, but nobody has built
it there in six years[3]

It'd be nice if the Samba community would participate more in CentOS, and
in the Storage SIG in particular.

Exactly.
It seems that there is a samba-vfs-glusterfs for CentOS7 from the SIG and also in the gluster repos, while no package for CentOS8.

So, I have to ask someone from samba if they plan to build it or not.
Any hints who can be a point of contact?

Most probably because RHEL 8 doesn't ship samba-vfs-glusterfs.

Once we started off this initiative but did not make much progress
other than creating "samba" dis-git repository under CentOS-Storage-
SIG(~4 years back). We will try to look into its possibilities moving
forward.

I took a quick look at the storage SIG repos on the centos 7 mirrors and do
not see any samba-vfs-* packages anywhere.

CentOS 8 is not CentOS 7. ;-) The version of Samba in CentOS 8 is also
much newer than what's in CentOS 7. And as Anoop has already pointed out,
samba-vfs-glusterfs isn't included in that build. It's actually a mystery
to me why there was ever even a samba-vfs-glusterfs in CentOS 7 base.

AFAICT these must be CentOS base system packages that you are seeing. And
like everything else in CentOS base, they are copies of what's in RHEL base.

Here, in the gluster project, we don't have any control over what goes into
RHEL or CentOS base. We also don't have any say in what the Samba project
does either, as it's a whole separate project. While we have some
interaction with them they do what they want.

Hey Kaleb,

thanks for the reply.
It seems I was fooling myself.
The samba-vfs-glusterfs was provided by base/updates , but I also found it at:
https://download.gluster.org/pub/gluster/glusterfs/samba/CentOS/epel-7/x86_64/samba-vfs-glusterfs-4.2.4-6.el7.centos.x86_64.rpm

I guess I have to ask Jeremy Allison and also in CentOS mailing list .

Thanks for the hints.

Best Regards,
Strahil Nikolov
