It is not mandatory for the upgrade procedure. However, if you partially
upgrade your systems, the systems that stay online longest will have the
most recent data. If you then add the upgraded systems, and immediately
take the others offline, you may not be able to access recently added
files, or you may notice other unexpected behaviour. Doing a heal makes
sure the data is consistent in the environment, and that it does not
matter what systems you take offline next.
