Thanks for the suggestion, but sadly that wasn't it.  This is the route table 
on both hosts:

Kernel IP routing table
Destination     Gateway         Genmask         Flags Metric Ref    Use Iface
192.168.130.0   0.0.0.0         255.255.255.0   U     0      0        0 br1
192.168.122.0   0.0.0.0         255.255.255.0   U     0      0        0 br0
0.0.0.0         192.168.122.1   0.0.0.0         UG    0      0        0 br0

I haven't ruled it out, though. I am going to do some more log investigation.
