It sure looks like it's in 3.3.x to me.

Why do you think it's not in 3.3.x?

My 3.3.1 install from community rpms accepts the command.

Untarring the 3.3.1 source I see it in 
.../xlators/mgmt/glusterd/src/glusterd-volgen.c and 
.../xlators/cluster/stripe/src/stripe*.c

Is there something I'm missing?
