 * Directory operations are little faster, because "opendir" looks up
   only on the name space cache.

Just noticed this in the 1.3.10 release announcement. I've been running
patched versions of 1.3.9 for a while now to fix various problems I've come
across and one issue that's cropped up since then has been a phenomenon of
"invisible files" when using the unify translater.

I just rolled back to 1.3.9 and suddenly all my files are showing up - I'm
pretty sure that the bug that's been introduced must be related to the
changes to opendir somehow preventing self-heal from working properly around
these files.
