Another thought that just occurred to me: security. There's no broadcast/unicast equivalent of TLS, so you're not going to have that protection. Maybe it doesn't matter in some kinds of deployments, but in others it would matter very much. Also, a similarly-secure broadcast/multicast protocol would be a really awesome research project.
