[Gluster-devel] Results of GlusterFS 3.5 Feature Planning discussion

Hi everyone,

The Gluster 3.5 Planning meeting was held today on
#gluster-devel on irc.gnu.org.

The proposals accepted as "Core features" for Gluster 3.5
are:

  • AFR CLI Enhancements
  • Better Peer Identification
  • Better-SSL
    • Management plane only
  • Exposing Volume Capabilities
  • File Snapshot
  • GFID Access
  • Multi-Node Test Suite
  • Object Count
  • On-wire Compression/Decompression
  • Prevent NFS restart on Volume Change
    • Phase 1 only - anything not requiring a graph change
  • Quota Scalability
  • Readdir Ahead
  • SELinux Integration
  • Zerofill

The proposals marked as "Nice to have" instead are:

  • Brick Failure Detection
  • Easy addition of Custom Translators
  • Better-SSL
    • Everything other than the management plane pieces
  • Data classification
  • Disk encryption
  • Disperse
  • Exports Netgroups Authentication
  • Geo-replication to SWIFT target
  • New Style Replication
  • Prevent NFS restart on Volume Change
    • Phase 2 - anything not in phase one
  • Thousand node glusterd
  • libgit translator
