[Gluster-devel] large_read fuse option when direct-io mode is disabled?

Like everyone else I've been having trouble getting good performance out 
of gluster when direct-io is disabled but I noticed there is a 
"large_read" option on the fuse module.

Is there a way of passing this option to fuse via the glusterfs command 
line?
Is this even a workaround for the direct-io slowness?
