A couple of observations that might be helpful to diagnose the problem.

Our security team has discovered that by using a full connection in nmap, while
the "wrong MSG-TYPE" log errors are still generated, it does not trigger a
crash of the brick.

A stop/start of the volume resolves the problem.  We do this from the node
where the "crash" message appears in the log.

We share two volumes from the same cluster, only the larger one has ever
crashed.  All other settings (options etc.) are the same.
