Cause: 
Due to a unhandled race in the RPC interaction layer, brick down notifications potentially result in access of corrupted data structures. In some cases this can lead to NULL pointer access and hence the segfault.

Consequence: 
Bitrot daemon (bitd) crashing (segfault).

Fix: 
In such cases (bitd crash), volume start <volname> force can be used to restart bitrot daemon on node(s) where it crashed.
