Harold, If you look at the patch sent on June 7th (linked to in comment #7),
there was a -1 given on approach taken in the patch on the 2nd of July.

I'm working on seeing if the solution can be made generic in the socket layer
based on a an internal discussion I had with other gluster devs. If the fix
works, I'll send it out for review and see if that is acceptable. There's no
ETA as of now.
