Worklog and rebalance logs

Description of problem:
After starting a rebalance it gets to a certain point (usually after scanning
202,908 files) and I see stale file handle warnings in the logs. Then it
becomes unable to find any files (despite their existence) and the rebalance
fails.

Please see attached worklog.txt (in tarball) for full steps.
