[Gluster-users] GlusterFS over multiples HDD

Keep in mind that if you use each disk as a separate brick, use  replica 3 volumes.

Also,  mdadm  allows you to specify a hot spare,  so in case of disk failure it will automatically kick in and replace the failed drive.

I'm not sure if LVM has that option,  but as it relies  on the same mechanism mdadm is  using -> it should be possible.
